Blogs Influence Availability, Not Quality

This article goes along with what I had already thought about blogging. Blogging makes the news available in a greater number of places, but the quality of the news isn't as good as it is in a newspaper. I believe that blogging is here to stay, but when it comes to citizen journalism, I think it has a ways to go. While I think that one day the idea may make strides to becoming more and more popular, right now there's still much skepticism among people and a lot of exploration to be done before it is taken more seriously.

What did you think about the survey's indication that many reporters are relying more and more on blogs for their own work?

I also believe that the quality of news is nowhere near that of other news mediums. Along with citizen journalism not still there, I believe it will be stronger in the future, but it hasn't reached that point yet.

Derek,
I do think that blogs could be very helpful to journalists. It could help understand a story better, show what readers may be interested in, help with fact checking, etc. I think that as an aid to reporters, blogs are good. However I just don't feel that bloggers are actual journalists. Plus, while according to this survey journalists seemed to be using them a lot, a lot of readings in the book and stuff seem to be opposite.
